Worldwide Pablo decided to do the all-American thing this past holiday weekend and just plain goofed off for the better part of it. Weeds beckoned in the front yard, blog posts cried out to be written, laundry should have been folded, and writing projects were to have been started for WWP's congregation. But no, the weekend was given over to leisure pleasures instead: Hot-tubbing with friends; a trip to the outlet stores for new summer clothes; hot dogs and fireworks on the Fourth, an homage to Tad's in Troutdale for chicken and dumplings, a day trip to the Willamette Valley for sightseeing and a little bit of history…
In between all there, there was a trip the local cineplex to catch the summer movie hit, "Spider-Man 2." This sequel is a darn good movie, as far as action flix go. [Rosemary Harris is searing in her supporting role. Is an Oscar nod possible?] We find our hero swept up in making the local streets safe for the common guy. No thug is too big to stand up against. Even subtle injustices are noticed and battled. The adoring public cheers. But being a hero is hard work and it takes it toll. The home life falters, the reading gets backlogged, it becomes increasingly difficult to juggle all the appointments and commitments. Life seems out of focus. The hero calls it quits. But then the siren call for decency and justice sounds again, and our hero returns.
Hey, hold on a minute! Isn't that the plotline for some other super-hero story?

Rosemary Harris was searing? I'm scared to think what you're trying to imply. :)
I, too, enjoyed the film. For my part, I thought Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus did an outstanding job. I really want to go see this film again, but I don't know when I'll find the time... :/

Well, "riveting" might be the right word. Couldn't take my eyes off Rosemary. She's as wonderful as ever.
WWP will see it again, too.
