Gay nuptials continued apace this weekend, here in the worldwide capital of same-sex marriage, Portland, Oregon. At the time WWP signed off here on Friday, nearly 1,300 marriage licenses had been issued to gay and lesbian couples. Today, they are lining up yet again. Something of a “gold rush” fever has set in, with worries running high that either a pending opinion from the state attorney general, or a lawsuit and request for an injunction filed on Friday, could halt the queer vows.
Indeed, over the weekend, WWP attended such a wedding on Saturday, rushed into place in just two days and held at the home of church pewmates Bill and David. Then on Sunday morning, it was announced that another seven of the congregation's same-sex couples had exchanged vows, and all of the weddings [and all of the newlyweds’ names] were included in the morning’s customary prayers of thanksgiving. Later Sunday, during WWP’s regular Sunday afternoon bowling league, three couples were cheered for the new marital status. And finally, later this week, Carl and Archie, owners of WWP’s favorite hangout, will marry with their many patrons and friends as witnesses.
Three things to say about this:
First, public opinion may be somewhat against it today, but if history tells us anything it’s that gay marriage will, in time, go mainstream.
Second, gay marriage is turning out to be good for the economy.
Third, WWP had better get his act together, and soon. He's running out of fresh shirts, and besides, this bridesmaid thing is really getting old.

Be grateful you don't have to buy a very expensive yet hideous dress (plus buy shoes to match, ugh) to fulfill your 'bridesmaid' duties!
I've reused wedding party finery as Halloween costumes...

Well, we ARE running out of fresh shirts. And don't even get us started on the expense of gifts, cards, etc. Ack!
But, it's all for a happy reason. Who needs a retirement fund?
